More than 15 students, faculty and staff of the UCR School of Medicine participated on Saturday, Feb. 3, in the Ward 2 Beautification Project presented by Keep Riverside Clean & Beautiful. The medical school team completed litter and general clean up on Iowa Avenue between University Avenue and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, and on Everton Place near the UCR campus.

“As a community-based medical school, it is important that we contribute to community efforts that enhance the quality of life in the region we serve. I am so proud that our School of Medicine family is committed to this ideal,” said medical school Dean Deborah Deas, who also participated in the clean-up day.

Keep Riverside Clean & Beautiful is a community program sponsored by the city’s Public Works Department and Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce that creates partnerships to enhance beautification efforts. The program since 1992 has organized volunteer opportunities for litter prevention, graffiti eradication and planting.
