Following a six-month national search, I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Marie Schultz as Associate Vice Chancellor for Development. This is a critical moment for UCR as we prepare to close our first comprehensive fundraising campaign. Marie’s breadth and depth of experience and knowledge uniquely equip her to lead Living The Promise to successful conclusion and transition our team to a student-focused follow-on effort.

For almost six years, Marie has served as an assistant vice chancellor, supervising fundraising in academic units. Marie previously led major-gift development programs in the Graduate School of Education and the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences before joining the central Development office to manage a newly formed campus-wide individual giving unit. She started her advancement career in prospect research and annual giving and comes to this role with more than 20 years of front-line experience.

A proud graduate of UCR’s College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, Marie provided essential stability to the advancement program during a period of continuous leadership turnover, even as she grew her skills and honed her abilities as a manager. She was a UC CORO fellow in 2017-18 and has been an actively engaged member of the Riverside community. Her relationships with many of UCR’s most generous supporters extends over decades, an increasingly rare advantage in educational fundraising.

In addition to her UCR Bachelor of Science degree, Marie earned an MBA from the University of Redlands. Through her work across campus she has repeatedly demonstrated our core values of integrity, excellence, accountability, and respect.

My gratitude goes to members of the search advisory committee, listed below and ably chaired by Assistant Vice Chancellor Johnny Cruz. This process was rigorous, thorough, and thoughtful. I extend deep appreciation to my colleagues who invested time and effort to bring a robust pool of finalists to campus.

Please join me in congratulating Marie on her new role as UCR’s chief development officer.

Best regards,

Peter
