Dear Campus Community,

In recent years, UC Riverside has been increasingly recognized nationally for our achievements in student success and research, and for our contributions to the state of California and beyond. One of the major reasons for our success is the commitment and passion of our employees.

Even as I recognize the importance of our faculty and staff in any year, the work you have done to support our students and research enterprise over the last 14 months while navigating a pandemic has been incredible.

For that reason, I am pleased to announce a 3% salary increase for all policy-covered staff and academic employees for the 2021-22 fiscal year. In his message to Chancellors approving the increase, President Drake stated that he wanted to “recognize the extraordinary efforts by all of our policy-covered employees during the pandemic by providing a general increase.” UCR will also implement our own equity review and adjustment program, managed through Human Resources, for policy-covered staff. That program will be initiated in the early fall, consistent with past practices.

For policy-covered staff, this means a 3 percent increase to their base salary, effective July 1. The program this year therefore will not be a “merit” allocation. The adjustment to the academic salary scales will be effective Oct. 1 for policy-covered faculty, July 1 for other policy-covered academic appointees. Union-represented staff and academic employees are not included in this program, as their wages are governed by collective-bargaining agreements.

Thank you for your commitment to our students and our mission. I am grateful to work alongside you and happy I can share today’s exciting news.
