Dear UCR Community,

Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Peter Hayashida has shared with me his plan to leave UC Riverside in December 2021. Arrivals and departures are a normal part of university life, and Vice Chancellor Hayashida has diligently prepared to minimize the impact of this change on our external relations efforts.

Since his arrival in July 2009, Vice Chancellor Hayashida has led the team that completed the first comprehensive fundraising campaign in our 67-year history; expanded the national and global media profile of the campus; overhauled our brand messaging and campus visual identity; delivered our first-ever alumni census; grew the campus endowment from $62.2 million to $363.3 million; modernized and streamlined our financial and data infrastructure; and created an organizational culture rooted in integrity, respect, and collaboration.

We will launch a national search for our next vice chancellor and I will provide further details as they become available. Vice Chancellor Hayashida has identified several key priorities during his last six months to ensure continuity and a smooth transition. I appreciate the accomplishments of our Advancement organization over the past 12 years and I know you’ll join me in wishing our colleague well as he prepares for his next chapter.
