Dear Campus Community,

Multiple incidents of vandalism have occurred recently on our campus that included antisemitic images and language spray painted on campus property. This incident continues the disturbing trend of public expressions of antisemitism on college campuses nationwide. Let me be clear: we will not tolerate antisemitism at UCR.

As I mentioned in my recent communication, members of the campus community have the right to express points of view on political matters, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We are committed to free speech at UCR and believe that our campus can and should be a place where we engage in and debate complicated issues that affect people’s lives.

However, we will not stand for expressions of racist or anti-religious bigotry. Every member of our campus community deserves to learn and work in a safe and welcoming environment.

In addition, vandalism is not a permitted form of political expression or advocacy and is a violation of University of California policy. We are investigating the matter to identify who is responsible for the vandalism and will pursue disciplinary action.
