The UC Riverside Police Department on Monday night secured an arrest warrant for a UCR student in connection with the recent discovery of an assault rifle in a campus residential building. The student was arrested in Los Angeles County and brought to the Riverside County Jail.
The arrest comes after UC police executed a search warrant in a campus residential building, which revealed an assault rifle, ammunition, five high-capacity magazines, and hand-drawn images in a journal depicting a violent act.
A subsequent UCPD investigation revealed the assault rifle was registered to the student. The investigation also revealed the student owned no other registered weapons.
