As there has been a national conversation about drones, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) would like to remind the campus about drone policies and procedures at UCR. All Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) drone flights must be registered and approved before the flight occurs. Registration is required anywhere on UC property, and off campus if using a UC-owned drone or representing UCR. Registration is completed through the UC Drones app at http://ehs.ucop.edu/drones, where your flight will be reviewed to ensure minimal risk to people and property and that all legal requirements are met. Some scenarios, such as flying at night or over people, have additional regulatory requirements to meet, and the review process will help ensure that your flight is safe and legal.
Environmental Health & Safety has a website for UCR drone guidance at https://ehs.ucr.edu/safety/drones. The UC Center of Excellence on Unmanned Aircraft System Safety maintains a website with significant resources and guidance at https://ucdrones.github.io. If you have questions about the drone safety program at UCR, please contact ehs@ucr.edu.
