Dear Campus Community,

With no advance notice, we learned recently that the federal government terminated the eligibility of six student visas for members of the UC Riverside community, two for current students and four for recent graduates. We have not received detailed reasons for these terminations.

This is not a situation unique to UCR and is occurring at higher education institutions throughout the United States and at other UC campuses. Our International Students and Scholars team is working with our impacted students, and we are working as a system to determine the path forward.

UCR remains committed to international students and will continue to support them in every way possible, consistent with the law. This includes protecting their privacy. UCR does not release confidential student information, including immigration status, unless required by law. Furthermore, campus police officers will not contact, detain, question, or arrest an individual solely on the basis of suspected undocumented immigration status or to discover their immigration status. UC police also will not undertake joint efforts with federal immigration enforcement authorities to investigate, detain, or arrest individuals for violation of federal immigration law.

We know this situation may be distressing for many members of our community. Below is a list of resources that may be useful.

  • UCR services for international students and scholars
  • UC FAQs on possible federal immigration enforcement actions on UC property
  • UC “Know Your Rights” printable cards
  • Statement supporting undocumented UC community members
  • UC Immigrant Legal Services
  • Systemwide resources for undocumented students at UC
