Like colleges and universities across the country, the University of California, UC Riverside (UCR) is subject to regulatory oversight by the state and federal governments and accrediting agencies. Over many years and across numerous federal administrations, higher education institutions including UC and UCR have received and consistently complied with information requests from various governmental agencies in connection with audits, compliance reviews, or investigations, among other data requests. In response to these requests, UCR may be required to disclose certain responsive data and information to the requesting agency. For example, in civil rights investigations, UCR may be required to disclose civil rights office case files, police department complaints or records, candidate hiring applications, or candidate admissions information. UCR takes steps to protect the privacy of individuals’ information in these disclosures to the extent possible, but individually identifiable information may need to be disclosed in connection with some requests. UCR closely reviews its disclosure obligations under applicable laws and seeks to protect against disclosure of community members’ personal information to the extent permissible.
