Guided by UCR's four pillars of Data Governance--understandability, trustworthiness, accessibility, and privacy--the Data Governance Procedures and Standards cover many aspects of how UCR uses and retains data, including:
- data classification
- privacy and access procedures
- roles and responsibilities regarding institutional data.
The standards are designed to ensure that information is handled securely by authorized users, protecting individual privacy while providing the high-quality resources needed for informed decision-making across the campus community. These standards apply to UCR's Data Stewards, Owners, Custodians, and Data Consumers--essentially anyone who uses or maintains institutional data at UCR.
Although these Standards are not a campus policy, we are posting them for campus notice and comment using the policy development process because stakeholder input and awareness will help the quality of the Standards and their implementation. The proposed procedures and standards are available here: Data Governance Procedures and Standards. Because these are being shared in the summer, we extended the usual comment period (30 days) to 60 days. Please submit comments to: policy@ucr.edu.
