The Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Association (CSHEMA) has named UCR a winner of its Innovation Award, which honors institutions that have implemented innovative process improvements, resource enhancements, or initiatives that improve the safety culture on campus.

Out of ten universities, UCR was the only one to receive the Award of Honor recognition, in the category of Process Improvements.

UCR’s fruition of the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Professional Workshop sealed the honor for this year’s award. The one-day, in-person workshop is now being used systemwide, to provide communication and influence skills training to staff. The education program was developed by the Risk & Safety Training Center of Excellence, a department under Enterprise Risk Management.

In applying for the Innovation Award, institutions profiled the innovative safety practices that garnered the national recognition. The profiles include rich detail on methods, implementation, cost, and applicability of research safety initiatives.

UCR’s applicant profile can be viewed here, including a candid history of the workshop’s ornery inspiration.
