Mono No Aware’s 18th Cinema Arts Festival will feature Christophe Katrib’s newest film, “The Dissonance.”

“This Dissonance” is a short 16mm film shot by Katrib, assistant professor of teaching with the Department of Theatre, Film, and Digital Production. Katrib will be in New York to project and perform an expanded cinema version of the film on Dec. 7 that will include live sound performance, live music, and poetry.

Mono No Aware, a cinema-arts nonprofit created in 2007, is devoted to making connections and community through cinematic experiences. It supports filmmakers who incorporate Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm or altered light projections as part of a live performance or installation.

“I’ve been a fan of this organization and this festival for a long time; they are a massive inspiration and source of support to anyone working in analog film in the U.S.,” Katrib said.

For Katrib, “The Dissonance” is personal.

“This film is an homage to the precious souls lost and the beautiful voices speaking out around the world,” Katrib said in describing his film.
