On Friday, September 20, 1,100 Transfer and Continuing students will check into their new campus apartment homes along the perimeter of campus. They join 1,800 returning apartment residents already living in these communities. Members of the campus community should plan for additional traffic on the outskirts of campus, especially at the Martin Luther King and University Avenue freeway exits.
And, for the first time ever at UCR, Freshman move-in expands to two days to help mitigate the loss of staging and parking space behind Aberdeen-Inverness (A-I) Residence Hall where the new Dundee Residence Hall is currently under construction. On Saturday, September 21, we welcome 1,000 Freshmen to A-I. On Sunday, September 22, another 2,500 Freshmen will move into Lothian and Pentland Hills.
Our Freshman residents are typically accompanied by multiple family members, nearly tripling the number of guests for the biggest annual campus event. Members of the campus community inclined to visit on Saturday and Sunday should be prepared for considerable traffic and parking impacts.
To help mitigate wait times for students and traffic congestion around campus, students will be arriving via multiple freeway exits at staggered appointment times. There will also be extensive signage and traffic attendants on campus.
