Clery Compliance Awareness Week for 2021 is from October 4th through 8th.  Clery Compliance Awareness week offers us an opportunity to educate our employees and students about the importance of security and safety of the campus.

Recently you received a direct link to the 2021 Annual Security And Fire Safety Report. It is important that you take time to review the information in this report.

Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is not just about reporting crime and fire statistics: it  explains 100+ institutional policies and programs that are designed to enhance transparency and promote campus safety. Whether a laptop is stolen or someone is assaulted, it is imperative that members of our community know what to do, who to call, and what to expect once they file a report.

The report provides valuable information about:

  • security policies for the campus, including access and maintenance
  • to whom a crime or other emergency should be reported
  • the authority and jurisdiction of UCPD personnel
  • how the institution will communicate with you in the event of a serious crime or other emergency that poses a threat to the health or safety of our community
  • the crime prevention, security awareness, sexual misconduct, and other safety and security-related education programs offered by various campus departments
  • UC’s policies, procedures, and response to reports of sexual violence and harassment
  • crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years
  • procedures that are in place if a residential student is reported to be missing
  • fire safety policies, fire drills, and fire evacuation procedures
  • descriptions of the fire safety systems in each residential facility
  • statistics regarding residential facility fires.

What can you do to help create a safe campus and to keep our campus in compliance?

Each student and employee can participate by doing the following:

  • Familiarize yourself with the contents of the Annual Security And Fire Safety Report.  It contains important safety and security-related information that you can use to help keep yourself and others safe.
  • Participate in the various safety and security-related education programs provided by the UCR.
  • Read all safety and security-related communications distributed by the UCR and follow any instructions or crime prevention tips they contain.
  • If you are the victim of or witness to a crime, report it promptly to the campus police at (951) 827-5222.
  • f you are the victim of any form of sexual violence, please report it and access the important information and rights, options and resources available on UCR’s Title IX website at Rights & Options | Title IX, Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action (ucr.edu).
  • If you become aware of a residential student who might be missing, immediately report that to campus police at (951) 827-5222 so they can immediately attempt to locate the student and initiate an investigation.
  • If you see evidence of a fire that has already been extinguished in an area where it may not have set off a fire alarm (e.g., you see evidence that someone lit a trashcan on fire, you see evidence of a piece of paper on a bulletin board that was set on fire, etc.), immediately report that to campus police at (951) 827-5222 so that the incident can be documented and investigated if it is not clear that the fire was set accidentally.
