Routine Steam Shutdown Scheduled: What You Need to Know
UCR’s Central Plant will conduct a routine inspection and maintenance of the steam utility distribution system from Friday, June 5 at 12:00 PM through Friday, June 12. During this period, heat and steam will temporarily turn off in campus facilities, affecting building heating, hot water, sterilization, autoclave operations, and other laboratory processes.
The inspection is essential for ensuring the reliable delivery of pressurized steam and hot water, which are crucial for sterilization, laboratory operations, and climate control.
To facilitate this process, campus boilers will shut down to cool for two days, with work beginning on June 7. Skilled trade staff will manage the shutdown, system repairs, and steam restoration, aiming to relight the boilers on the morning of June 12 to fully restore steam by 5 PM.
