UC Riverside paid tribute to departing Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Cynthia K. Larive at a farewell reception June 10 at the Alumni and Visitors Center packed with well-wishers.
Larive has been appointed as UC Santa Cruz chancellor effective July 1.
At the reception, Larive was honored for her history with UC Riverside that began as a doctoral student in analytical chemistry, graduating in 1992.
Larive joined the UCR faculty as a bioanalytical chemistry professor in 2005 and became chair of the Department of Chemistry in 2012. She was appointed divisional dean for physical sciences and mathematics in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and served as interim CNAS dean in 2015-16. Larive became provost in 2017 after a stint as vice provost for Undergraduate Education.
Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox praised Larive’s accomplishments and presented her with gifts, including a blue plaid beret and a framed photo of the bell tower.
“Know that you will be deeply missed and always welcomed back here in the Highlands,” he said.
