Having fewer students on campus does not mean UC Riverside staff and faculty are on break as well.
Faculty and staff stay on campus year-round, making sure things runs smoothly, even through summer. However, that doesn't mean they're not daydreaming of sandy beaches and family vacations in between projects and meetings.
Here is a look at some staff members' favorite summer memories:
Denise Davis
Job Title: Director
Department: Women's Resource Center
Time at UCR: Three years
My favorite summer tradition is: I love going to San Diego Pride. I have been going off and on for about a decade now.
If I could go on a summer vacation anywhere, I'd go to: I would love to go back to London. I went for my master's, and I miss it and love it.
Nathaly Martinez
Job Title: Program coordinator
Department: Women's Resource Center
Time at UCR: I have been here for eight years in total, five as a student worker and three postgraduation.
My favorite summer tradition is: I enjoy taking road trips. My favorite road trip was probably when I drove up Interstate 5 by myself, all the way up to Berkeley.
If I could go on a summer vacation anywhere, I'd go to: I have always wanted to go to Ibiza, Spain. Everyone always talks about Ibiza, and I want to see what everyone keeps talking about.
Daniel Moebus-Bowles
Job Title: Assistant director, sports communication, digital and emerging media
Department: Intercollegiate Athletics
Time at UCR: Two years
My favorite summer tradition is: Summer is when soccer season begins, so the opening game is something I always consider a tradition. We try and make it a big event in the athletics department since no students are on campus yet to come and support.
If I could go on a summer vacation anywhere, I'd go to: I would travel to Ireland. It would be nice to visit my roots; I have never been there before.
Michelle Patton-Coleman

My favorite summer tradition is: I love taking my family to South Mission Beach in San Diego. Everyone has something to do there, whether it be swimming or playing a game.
If I could go on a summer vacation anywhere, I'd go to: I would love to visit Fiji or Tahiti. It is so beautiful, and it is on my bucket list to stay in one of those huts over the water.
Christine Regadio- Auberry

If I could go on a summer vacation anywhere, I'd go to: I have never been, so I would really love to visit Lake Tahoe. I love water sports and spending time on the boat.
