A street improvement project at UC Riverside’s south campus entrance could mean some delays for commuters starting next week.

The City of Riverside is repaving both directions of Martin Luther King Boulevard between Chicago Avenue and the 60/215 freeway as part of a capital improvement project.

Delays in the area are expected starting the week of April 10 and will continue through the week of May 8 as crews begin grinding asphalt and paving the street, according to the city.

City public works crews will have changeable message signs in the work area notifying motorists of the work and possible delays.

UCR Transportation Services is advising campus commuters to avoid the area between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. through May 5 and use alternative routes such as University Avenue or Linden Street.

The construction schedule includes evening work the week of May 8, which could impact access to the 60/215 freeway from MLK Blvd.
