Graduating Highlanders began the countdown to commencement by joining the Senior Sendoff celebration at UC Riverside’s Rivera Lawn on Thursday, May 25.

About 3,000 seniors signed up for the inaugural event where they picked up their tickets for the June commencement ceremonies at Toyota Arena in Ontario and had a chance to celebrate on campus. Some attendees showed up early to the celebration held from 4-7 p.m. with lines extending all the way to the Barn at times.

Students were able to learn about UCR alumni programs and receive free swag. Many took the opportunity to take photos with friends in front of campus landmarks such as the UCR sign and the bell tower.

Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox also joined the festivities and mingled with students.
