Highlander Farewells is a recurring feature spotlighting faculty and staff members who recently retired or are retiring soon.

Learn more about the contributions of UCR colleagues with about 25 years or more of service in the short profiles that follow. Retirees with fewer years or who did not provide profile information are listed below. The list includes employees who filed for retirement in June 2025 and provided information to the UCR Retirement Center. 

We extend our gratitude to all our colleagues for their service and wish them well in their next chapter!

Subir Ghosh, a professor of statistics, is retiring after 45 years of service. Ghosh received the Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award in 1993, the International Indian Statistical Association Service Award in 2002, and the Graduate Council Dissertation Advisor/Mentoring Award in 2003. He has been named a member of several academic associations, including as an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

 

 

 

 

Kathy Carrington, a financial and administrative officer in the chemistry department, is retiring after 32 years of service. She began her career with the UC Agricultural and Natural Resources program and later joined the School of Medicine during its preliminary accreditation period. Her responsibilities in the chemistry department included financial, business, and human resource management.

 

 

 

 

Kathy Redd, an assistant dean for graduate student affairs and enrollment management at the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Graduate Student Affairs Center, is retiring after 26 years of service. She began her career as the first director of the center after working as an undergraduate academic adviser at UC Irvine. She has been involved in numerous campus initiatives at the center including implementation of UAW contracts and helping UCR host a UC/CSU diversity forum in October 2024.

 

 

 

Also retiring:

Deborah Jaurigue, an associate director of evaluation with Undergraduate Admissions, is retiring after 33 years.

 

 

 

 



Deborah Delgado, a credentialing coordinator with Student Health Services, is retiring after 23 years.

Jill Cantonwine, an administrative director with the University Writing Program, is retiring after 22 years.

Owen Long, a professor of physics and astronomy, is retiring after 20 years.

Jerry Monahan, a general accounting supervisor with Business and Financial Services, is retiring after 20 years.

John Shannon, a mail processor with Mail Services, is retiring after 20 years.

Stu Krieger, a professor in the Department of Theatre, Film and Digital Production, is retiring after 19 years.

Rina Lemus, an administrative assistant at Student Health Services, is retiring after 18 years.

Mark Haskell Smith, an adjunct associate professor with the Low Residency MFA program at Palm Desert and the writing for performing arts program, is retiring after 17 years.

Amanda Grey, an environmental programs manager with Environmental Health & Safety, is retiring after 14 years.
