Dear campus community,

 

Please join me in congratulating Milagros Peña, dean of the UC Riverside College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.  Earlier today she was named president of Purchase College. 

 

Her successful season serving as dean of CHASS since 2015 – marked by increases in fundraising, expansion of UCR ARTS, strengthening of the college’s academic programs, and successful faculty hiring – has poised Milly for this exciting new opportunity.

 

The presidency of Purchase College, which is part of the State University of New York system, represents a homecoming for Milly. She earned a Ph.D. and a master’s degree in sociology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.  

 

While I and our campus community will miss Milly, it should make us all proud when one of our own achieves this level of success.

 

We will soon begin the process of soliciting nominations for an interim dean, and the details will be announced to the campus in the near future.
