Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Juliet McMullin will serve as UCR’s Interim Dean of CHASS beginning August 1st, 2020. The Dean of CHASS provides academic and administrative vision and leadership for the college and oversees all aspects of the college’s teaching, research, and public service missions. Dr. McMullin will serve as Interim Dean of CHASS until a permanent Dean is appointed.
Juliet has been with UCR since 2004 and has served as Department Chair of Anthropology in CHASS since 2018. She received her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. at the University of California, Irvine and completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at UCLA. Through her research and her work as both Department Chair of Anthropology and Co-Director for the Center for Health Disparities Research, Juliet has practiced community engaged research and fostered intentional partnerships and collaborative practices. She has substantial experience promoting a healthy and inclusive campus climate.
I want to again thank Dr. Milly Peña for her five successful years serving as Dean of CHASS. We congratulate Milly on being named president of SUNY Purchase College and wish her well.
I would also like to express my thanks to the search committee for their advice and guidance in making this selection. The members are: Ken Baerenklau, Chris Chiarello, Deborah Deas, Sherine Hafez, Joel Smith, and Cindy Williams.
