Dear Colleagues,

A second community meeting on the STEM Education Center (previously called STEM High School) project is scheduled for April 21, 2021, starting at 6 p.m. This will be a zoom/virtual public meeting (see details below).

The first of the project’s community meetings was held in November 2019, prior to COVID-19. This project’s schedule was impacted by the pandemic and due diligence studies by Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) but RUSD is now ready to move forward.

The meeting will start with a presentation of the project by UCR and RUSD, with the remainder of the meeting dedicated to gathering input from anyone who may have interest in commenting on the project.

Specific information about this project, proposed on the southwest corner of Canyon Crest Drive and Blaine Street, is available at the STEM Education Center website. This link also includes a listing of the UCR Advisory Committee that has been working to support the Provost in providing information and improve the process, communications, and transparency with UCR stakeholders. Additionally, information is also provided on the RUSD website

Following this meeting, the next step in the process is for the preparation of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR).  An EIR could take up to twelve months or more to complete. There currently is not an exact schedule for the construction of the STEM Education Center, as the identification of additional funding sources is required. All costs associated with this proposed project are funded by RUSD, but UCR has a strong partnership with RUSD and is providing the land under a long-term lease, subject to final Board of Regents approval.
