UC Riverside has drafted a local procedure, implementing the systemwide Abusive Conduct Policy that President Drake approved effective January 2023. The draft local procedure is shared with the campus community for review and comment until October 27th.
The proposed procedure specifies the Responsible Offices. These are campus departments with specific responsibilities relating to resolving reports of Abusive Conduct, including initial assessment and deciding whether a formal investigation is needed. UCR's Responsible Offices are:
1. For reports alleging Abusive Conduct by academic personnel (other than Senate faculty), the Academic Personnel Office.
2. For reports alleging Abusive Conduct by Senate Faculty, the Vice Provost for Administrative Resolution.
3. For reports alleging Abusive Conduct by other employees, Human Resources.
The local procedure also designates the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel as the Campus Official responsible for advising on academic freedom issues that may arise, and the Chief Compliance Officer as the administrator for overseeing compliance with the policy.
The proposed procedure and flowchart are available online for review. Please submit comments, questions and suggestions to policy@ucr.edu by October 27, 2023. The proposed procedure will also be submitted to UCR's Senate for their review, in accordance with the Policy.
