The UC Riverside School of Medicine has received the 2019 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity, or HEED, Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

“We thank INSIGHT Into Diversity for recognizing our commitment to diversity and inclusion at the UCR School of Medicine,” said Dr. Deborah Deas, vice chancellor for health sciences and dean of the School of Medicine. “Our faculty, students, and staff are committed to upholding these values every day, and we will work to continue being a leader in this field through hiring, training, and mentorship.”

As a recipient of the annual award — a national honor recognizing U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion — the UCR School of Medicine will be featured, along with 42 other recipients, in the December 2019 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The university received the award last year.

“We take a detailed approach to reviewing each application in deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.

“Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being done every day across their campus.”
