Emerbee’s, UCR’s newest dining café, celebrated its grand opening Oct. 3 with music, giveaways, and a whole lot about bees.

A long line of customers joined the noontime event, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks by Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox.

The 600-square-foot café, located next to the Multidisciplinary Research Building, prominently features bees in its look and menu, including signature drinks infused with orange blossom honey produced on campus.

UCR’s Housing, Dining, and Hospitality Services partnered with the entomology department’s Center for Integrative Bee Research to display bee research information on the side of the cafe.

The grand opening included a beehive display, free jars of honey, and other bee-themed treats. Other giveaways included lip balm, stickers, and Starbucks tumblers. Wilcox and Dining Services employees cut the ribbon following music played by a bagpiper.

Emerbee’s is open from 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday.
