UCR Riverside is ranked among the Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanic Students, according to an annual magazine list.
The campus was No. 53 for total enrollment among four-year schools on the list by Hispanic Outlook magazine, which ranked colleges and universities with the most Hispanic students and degree-earners in various disciplines. The list, released Tuesday, Oct. 11, uses data from the 2020-2021 academic year.
UCR fared well in several categories, including degrees issued and representation in some majors. It was No. 20 in overall bachelor’s degrees awarded. The campus ranked No. 2 for English language and literature/letters degrees awarded; No. 3 for philosophy and religious studies; and No. 5 for social sciences.
UCR is a Hispanic Serving Institution, a special recognition assigned by the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Act for having a full-time equivalent undergraduate student enrollment that is at least 25% Hispanic. UCR’s Latinx student population is nearly 38%
In June, UCR was among 20 of the nation’s top research universities that formed the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities. The alliance seeks to increase Hispanic doctoral students and professors at its member universities.
Last year, UCR received the Seal of Excelencia from Excelencia in Education, the nation’s premier authority on efforts accelerating Latino student success in higher education.
