UC Riverside will inaugurate Chancellor S. Jack Hu and the campus is invited to join the celebrations.

Hu will be formally inaugurated at a Feb. 5 ceremony that will include University of California leaders and campus faculty, staff, and student representatives. He began his tenure as UCR’s 10th chancellor on July 15.

A full afternoon of activities are planned, starting with the formal investiture ceremony where Hu will be installed into office by UC President James Milliken in his first visit to UCR since he was appointed in August.

The inauguration is a UC tradition full of history and ceremony that will include an academic procession with participants in academic regalia, led by the UCR Mace, and the presentation of the Chancellor’s Medal to Hu.

Hu will deliver an inaugural address outlining his vision for UCR.

The ceremony will include musical performances, a video presentation, and remarks from Janet Reilly, chair of the UC Board of Regents, as well as UCR and community representatives.

The investiture ceremony is limited to those who registered in advance to attend the 460-seat University Theatre. Registration has reached capacity, but a first-come, first-served standby line will be available to fill any vacant seats. Doors open at 1:15 p.m. with the ceremony beginning at 2 p.m.

A live stream will be available on YouTube.

The inauguration celebration will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Rivera Lawn and is open to the public with no advance registration required.

The event will feature performances from several student groups in a variety of musical and dance styles.

Light snacks and refreshments will be served. The menu includes specially designed cookies, fruit cups, grilled cheese sandwiches, lemonade, iced tea, and hot cider.

Complimentary parking will be provided in blue Lots 1, 5 and 6, with backup parking in gold 30.
