Monica J. Carson, who holds the S. Sue Johnson Presidential Endowed Chair at UC Riverside, has been selected as the 2020 recipient of the Bernard Haber Award in recognition of her contributions to the world’s neurochemical societies. The award, given by the American Society for Neurochemistry, is accompanied by a plaque and $5,000.
Created in 2005, the award recognizes the leadership and contributions of Bernard Haber to the field of neurochemistry. Haber, who died in 2007, served the American Society for Neurochemistry in many capacities and contributed to its growth and reputation.
As recipient of the Bernard Haber Award, Carson will have the opportunity to organize a symposium at an annual meeting of the American Society for Neurochemistry. A professor of biomedical sciences, she directs UCR’s Center for Glial-Neuronal Interactions and chairs the Division of Biomedical Sciences in the School of Medicine. She serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Neuroinflammation.
