UC Riverside has received two national awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, or CASE, for its marketing and communications work.
University Relations won two bronze CASE Circle of Excellence Awards from the nonprofit association dedicated to educational advancement in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing, and advancement services.
Its peer-selected and adjudicated awards honor colleges, universities, and schools worldwide for their work in educational advancement.
One of UCR’s awards was for storytelling in the communications category for the 40 Under 40 alumni engagement and storytelling initiative, which included profiles of prominent early career alumni through features in UCR Magazine, videos, and other digital elements.
The judges described the winning entry as “bright, dynamic and effective storytelling relevant to its intended audience.”
The other award was for an op-ed published in Inside Higher Ed in which Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox called attention to the difference between institutions that effectively serve Latino students and those that enroll large numbers to gain Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) designation and access to funding without investing in support services for Latino students.
The op-ed won in the writing category for a column or opinion piece. The judges called it an “interesting and informative story on a topic that doesn’t get much national attention.”
