Thomas E. Brown, a clinical professor of psychiatry and neuroscience in the UCR School of Medicine, was honored recently at an international convention on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) held in Anaheim, California. Brown was presented with a lifetime achievement award for his research, publications, and teaching about ADHD in the United States and 35 other countries.
Around 1,400 delegates from the U.S., Europe, and Asia convened to review current research on attention-deficit disorder in children, teens, and adults.
An expert on ADHD, Brown earned his Ph.D. at Yale and taught on the clinical faculty of Yale Medical School for 20 years before relocating to California. He was appointed clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at UCR in February 2022. He has published 30 articles in professional journals as well as 8 books, many of which have been translated into foreign languages. His most recent books include “Smart but Stuck: Emotions in Teens and Adults with ADHD,” “Outside the Box: Rethinking ADHD in Children and Adults,” and “Social Anxiety: Hidden Fears and Shame in Teens and Adults.”
