UC Riverside has been named among the best colleges and universities for military veterans in the United States.

The campus was ranked No. 95 in the 2025 Best for Vets: Colleges list released Nov. 17 by Military Times, a news service for service members and their families. UCR was No. 4 in California and No. 9 in the West. UCR’s showing is a significant advancement from 2024 when it was No. 205 nationally.

The 2025 list includes 357 institutions chosen from an extensive survey evaluating them on academic quality, student support services, affordability, and outcomes for veterans such as graduation and retention rates.

The publication said the list recognizes institutions that are prioritizing veteran success through targeted programs, financial support, and student veteran communities.

UCR’s Veterans Resource Center has increased its services, programs, and support significantly over the years. It offers financial aid and employment readiness services as well as a location for students to connect with other veterans. The center includes a study lounge with access to computers, printers, coffee, and snacks.

“The Veterans Resource Center allows veterans to be themselves while integrating into this civilian world,” said Tami Thacker, director of the center. “The human interactions within the VRC instill confidence, camaraderie and give a sense of belonging on campus.”

As of fall 2025, the campus has 225 veterans, 49 reservists, 17 National Guard, and 12 active duty students, according to the center.
