UC Riverside has been ranked the No. 26 university in the world for plant and animal science by U.S. News and World Report in its 2020 Best Global Universities list.
The rankings, released Oct. 19, focused on academic research and reputation in evaluating nearly 1,500 top institutions across 86 countries.
UCR placed No. 158 in the overall rankings among all global universities. The campus tied with Nanjing Agricultural University in China in the plant and animal science category based on its research performance in the field.
U.S. News and World Report looked at 13 indicators and weights to measure global research performance. They included global and regional reputation, and citations in books and other publications.
UCR’s College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences has been at the forefront of agricultural research, producing more than 40 different citrus varieties and studying how to control Citrus Greening Disease. The campus is home to the Givaudan Citrus Variety Collection at UCR, one of the most extensive global collections of citrus diversity.
Other notable UCR placements in the rankings include No. 91 in chemistry, No. 103 in geosciences, and No. 111 in environment/ecology.
