UC Riverside’s COVID-19 cases remained low in the first two months of returning to mostly in-person work and instruction on campus.
Seventy positive COVID-19 cases were reported among faculty, staff, and students between Sept. 5 and Oct. 27, according to the campus COVID-19 Management group.
Students accounted for 40 cases while 30 cases were reported by employees. Individuals were on campus during the infectious period in 44 of the total cases while for the remaining 26 the individuals were off campus.
UCR reopened in the fall quarter with about 80% of courses meeting in-person and student housing returning to normal capacity. Student enrollment for the fall is 26,847.
As part of the return to campus, the UC system implemented a vaccination mandate for students and employees.
Vaccination rates at UCR have surpassed the 90% goal set by a UC-wide committee with 96% of students vaccinated while the combined rate of students and employees is about 95%.
Other COVID-19 safety precautions include requiring face coverings when indoors, online wellness checks, and periodic testing.
