UC Riverside’s Orbach Library has a new roof as a part of a recently completed renovation project.
The work, completed in early December, involved the complete demolition of the existing roof and replacing it with a new roofing system.
The new roof is made of a fiberglass material with a 40-year life that has been used on other roof replacement projects on campus. It’s expected to provide much better protection to the library, which had a roof that seeped water into the third floor of the building.
“The workmanship is amazing,” said Dan Lerman, assistant director of project management for Facilities Services. “I’m 100% satisfied with it.”
The third floor remains closed until a follow-up project is completed later this year. Planned improvements include repainting the walls, installing new floor covering, and repairing damaged ceiling tiles. Some books that suffered water damage are being restored and treated by the library’s conservation and digitization strategies staff.
The rest of the library remains open and operational.
