Scientists and musicians came together to talk about microscopic worms and perform chamber music at UC Riverside’s Culver Center of the Arts on Friday, Sept. 27.
The “Earworm” event aimed to demonstrate the synergy between the two seemingly unconnected disciplines. Researcher Sophie Zaaijer, who served as emcee, described how scientists, like composers and musicians, solve complex problems through creativity and innovation.
Presenters included College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Dean Peter Atkinson and Adler Dillman, chair of UCR’s Department of Nematology, who displayed images of various nematode species.
They were followed by chamber music performances of classical compositions including by Zaaijer who played viola as part of a musical quartet.
