UC Riverside has been named one of the world’s top universities for 17 subject areas in the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings, released Wednesday, March 12.

In its rankings, global higher education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds, or QS, compared more than 18,300 university programs in more than 1,700 universities around the world in 55 academic disciplines and five broad subject areas.

UCR placed No. 89 in the world for agriculture and forestry, the second year in a row that it was in the top 100.

For rankings over 100, QS did not provide an exact placing but a numerical range. UCR placed between 101-150 for geophysics; 151-200 for Earth and marine sciences, and geology; and 201-250 for environmental sciences.

In additional subjects UCR ranked as follows:

•    mathematics, and economics and econometrics; 501-600

•    medicine, 601-650.
